Causes of a Failed EGR Valve
The EGR valve may be damaged by carbon deposits which prevent it from opening and closing properly.
It is often the pinion and crown of the electric actuator gear train that wear out and break, or one of the 2 small bearings at the actuator output that seizes and breaks. The axle can also seize in the commutator.
Symptoms of a faulty EGR valve
- Loss of power, “engine choked”
- Anti-pollution light on
- Vehicle stalls or won't start
- Technical inspection refused due to excessive pollution
- Black smoke (in some cases)
